Training
The children in Kiribati start school at the
age of six. They have compulsory schooling for nine
years and most of them complete primary school. More
than nine out of ten Kiribati can read and write.
After a substantial expansion, almost all children
have access to high school in their home islands. Most
colleges are run by church communities. Some higher
education is offered at the "capital atoll" Tarawa where
technicians, teachers, nurses and sailors are trained
and where the University of Fiji has a branch.
